IN a move which speaks to planning ahead in agricultural production, banks are already in talks with farmers over agriculture financing modalities ahead of the next summer cropping season.
Discussions between farmer representative organisations and financial institutions are likely to set tone for loan agreements meant to boost production in the next summer cropping season.
“We are still in talks remember we have to plan ahead so as to ensure transparency but so far our talks are heading in the positive direction,” said Mr Paul Zakariya, Zimbabwe Farmers Union Executive Director.
With the Second Republic having set up AFC Holdings to spearhead agriculture sector financing, there is hope for affordable loan facilities.
“Packages are being put in place and we are really hopeful they may yield the desired targets,” said Mr Francis Macheka, AFC Holdings Acting Group Chief Executive Officer
Finalisation of the agriculture financing talks is also expected to help farmers in proper planning and avoiding risks associated with climate change.
