Table Tennis action is set to resume with a Top 16 competition set for the 15th of next month as part of preparations for the Chinese Ambassador’s Cup slated for Zambia in June.

The tournament will be part of preparations for the Invitational Ambassador’s Cup set for Zambia in June before Zimbabwe hosts the same event in July.

“It is very exciting to resume table tennis because it has not been easy due to COVID-19. However, to keep our players and officials abreast with the game, we came up with virtual programmes and courses to upgrade our standards,” said Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union Technical Director Nelson Madzokere.

He added, “We will be hosting our Top 16 competition to select players for the two Ambassador’s Cups in Zambia in June and the other one in July here in Zimbabwe. Our schools’ calendar is not yet ready due to some COVID-19 restrictions but we are working on it to see how best we can fit in.”

The return of the Chinese Ambassador’s Cup after a year due to COVID-19 has given hope to players who are eyeing international exposure.
