Zim-Kenya to deepen cooperation in travel and tourism

By ZBC Reporter

Kenya and Zimbabwe are exploring ways of deepening cooperation in the travel and tourism sector under the bilateral trade agreement with focus on enhancing connectivity and promotion of joint marketing efforts

Home to beautiful attractions such as Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe has remained an irresistible destination for many adventure seekers.

Kenya on the other hand is among the famous safari destinations in Africa.

The two countries are keen to exploit the tourism potential through increased cooperation in travel and hospitality and Kenyan Ambassador to Zim Mrs Sheilla Muthoni Munyi was in the resort city of Victoria Falls as part of such efforts.

We appreciate the tourism facilities that we have here in Zimbabwe. First and foremost, we talk of the Victoria Falls and as Kenya we also have the big five. Actually, we want to make the two countries have joint tourism marketing so that we promote the distinctive attractions that each of the two countries have, she said.

Ambassador Sheilla Muthoni Munyi also took time to visit Chinotimba Old Peoples Home where she donated some groceries.

Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) Representative Ms Yvonne Jandles expressed gratitude to the ambassador for the gesture.

We are really grateful for this gesture. With COVID-19 we are seeing a lot of our donation sources drying up so to be remembered by the ambassador is great for the home. For Kenya to also come on board and pledge commitment to support our destination is also good for us,noted Jandles.

One key aspect of the Zimbabwe-Kenya relations has been connectivity through Kenyan Airways which continues to fly into Victoria Falls.

Apart from tourism, Zimbabwe and Kenya are also targeting to deepen cooperation in other sectors such as education and trade.
