Efforts being taken to increase availability of Zim dollar fuel

By ZBC Reporter

Government is working hard to improve fuel availability and ensure more is available in local currency on the market for the benefit of consumers.

A player in the petroleum industry Mr Godfrey Ncube is upbeat the foreign exchange rate will continue to be stable, giving consumers more payment options when purchasing the commodity.

At the moment we are seeing that the environment is improving and there are high chances that now more RTGS fuel will be coming in but for now you can see that there is a mixture of fuel sold in us dollars and fuel sold in RTGS. While sales of fuel in predominantly United States Dollars have brought stability to the petroleum industry, government is cognisant of the high price and challenges facing sections of consumers in purchasing the commodity,he said.

Launching a local service station in Bindura which falls under government’s ambit, Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development Honourable Magna Mudyiwa committed to ensuring more Zim dollar fuel is available on the market.

The government is working hard in trying to further improve the fuel availability and that more RTGS fuel be accessible to the public. We are grateful that the foreign exchange system by The RBZ has also contributed to improve availability for funds for fuel procurement in a sustainable manner, said Mudyiwa.

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Monica Mavhunga commended the move which will benefit local consumers, among them government departments.

Earlier this year, government began developing a framework for restructuring the oil industry to improve operational efficiency.
