Chevrons lose first T20 against Pakistan

THE Zimbabwe National Cricket side missed a great opportunity to beat one of the top Cricket sides in the World after losing the first of three T20 encounters against Pakistan by 11 runs at Harare Sports Club this Wednesday.
The Zimbabwe Cricket national team had the perfect opportunity to finally get a win over Pakistan; however they could not make the most of their chances as they lost the first of three T20 matches by 11 runs.
Sean Williams won the toss and opted to field and restricted Pakistan to a modest total of 149 for 7 after 20 overs.
However, the situation would have been much different had they not given away 12 wides and dropped 4 catches the.
In reply the Chevrons started off strongly with an early burst from Wesley Madhevere who was asked to open the batting after Brandon Taylor pulled out due to illness.
Craig Ervine joined Tinashe Kanhukamwe on the crease and the pair put on 56 for the second wicket partnership before Kanhukamwe was dismissed with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Luke Jongwe came in to hit the ball all over the park but it was too late to salvage something firm in a match they could have easily won.
In the end the Chevrons could only manage 138 runs in their innings, 11 runs short of the target.
Hope is not lost though, as alluded to by Jongwe at the end of the match.
“We just need to continue believing that we can do better and beat them, we stick to the positives and that will get us over the line,” he said.
This was Zimbabwe’s 15th consecutive defeat against Pakistan and what is even more worrying is that losing matches from winning positions is slowly becoming a habit.
The next match is on this Friday at the same venue.
