Martial Arts superstar Sensei Wilfred Mashaya has taken a giant step in his flourishing career with the karateka now into acting.
The Former Regional and Zimbabwe Sportsperson of year is now horning his acting skills, a path that the martial arts guru believes will open other avenues for him.
I felt I had to spread my wings, look and create other opportunities for me. I thought of harnessing my skills and putting them to good use, thus acting. Once I breakthrough, I am positive the move will also help to inspire other athletes to diversify and use their sporting expertise to create other avenues in life. We have a lot of talent in Zimbabwe and I believe we can make it big in theatre. So far I have worked on two films which are yet to be broadcast, he explained.
The Zim Ninja who has been inspired to take up acting by other top martial arts actors such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Lee among others also won bronze at the Virtual A Class International Championships.
I feel grateful for winning the medal, I never expected it but I thank God I managed to win something especially when competing against the best in the world. Will continue working hard to raise the country’s bar high and also win other accolades. Although I won bronze I just hope I will keep on pushing so that I do better next time, he added.
Sensei Mashaya participated in the Kobudo weapons category and performed a Kata called Toma No Tonfa in the first round and Hama Higa No Tonfa second round.
