Prince Dube powers Azam to victory

By Skilder Makona

Zimbabwe international Prince Dube is in the race for the Tanzanian Premier League golden boot award, with the player currently leading the goal scoring charts with 10 goals.

The Zimbabwean has been on the Azam FC faithfuls’ lips ever since joining the club from Highlanders last season.

Dube powered Azam to victory with a brace against Mtibwa Sugar at Azam Complex Stadium this Friday, taking his tally to 10 so far and moved to the top of the goal-scoring charts.

The 24-year-old striker converted a spot-kick in the 8th minute before sealing victory for his club four before regulation time, leaving Azam to move within three points shy of log leaders Young Africans who are on 50 points from 23 matches.

Judging from his current form, nothing will stop Mgadafi as Dube is affectionately known in the local football circles from claiming the golden boot award in the East African country.

Despite being sidelined by injuries sustained in November last year and early last month, Mgadafi bounced back with sheer determination and his qualities are second to none in the Tanzanian top flight league thus far.

The former Highlanders gunslinger missed out on Zimbabwe’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia last month as he was still nursing a hamstring injury.
