NATIONAL handball teams are set to go into camp next week as part of promoting the Zimbabwe Handball Federation Vision 2024 project.

The Zimbabwe Handball Federation-ZHF is warming up to the resumption of the game, with the association’s two national teams the U16 and U18 expected to go into camp as part of their routine Vision 2024 drive.

“We want to make sure that we always have strong teams which will compete with the big boys of handball globally. The team will be in camp from the 14th to the 18th of this month as we work on achieving Vision 2024. We are also using the camp to prepare our teams for the International Handball Federation Zone VI Challenge Trophy,” she said.

Consultations are also underway with provincial bodies as ZHF gears up for the resumption of the national league.

“Definitely we are eager to start our games and we have since written to provincial handball bodies so that we see what needs to be done and how best we can work on the smooth and safe return of the game, otherwise we are more than ready. Once we get correspondence from provinces, we will then ascertain when we can kick start the league,” she said.

The ZHF ushered in a new administration last month and it is expected the new executive will honour its pledges and take the game to the next level.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is yet to host the IHF sanctioned Zone VI Challenge Trophy after the tournament was postponed due to COVID-19.
