By ZBC Reporter

ZIMBABWE’S gold production is headed for exciting times stimulated by the completion of a central mine shaft at Blanket Mine, which will lift output to around one hundred thousand tonnes annually.

In yet another vote of confidence in the country’s investment climate, Caledonia Mining Corporation continues to expand its operations in Zimbabwe.

The massive project at Caledonia Mining Corporation’s Blanket Mine in Gwanda paints a positive outlook as production is forecasted to firm within the next two years.

Announcing the finalisation of the central mine shaft at Blanket through an interactive session on the gold miners website, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steve Curtis says the development will be pivotal to enhanced operations at Blanket Mine.

It is a transformational project that we have undertaken and it’s one of the projects that will lift up our production. We are looking at eighty thousand tonnes per year but this should increase to one hundred thousand tonnes by 2022. The central mineshaft allows us to go up to 1200m, he said.

The mining firm is confident of the country’s investment climate and has lined up another massive solar plant project for Blanket, which will be utilised to improve viability at the mine.
