EXICITING times are in the offing for farmers who fully embraced the command agriculture programme, with Taguta Estates assured of at least twelve thousand metric tonnes of maize this season.

The government-led command agriculture programme continues to drive the country’s farming sector, with Taguta Estates expecting a record harvest of 12 thousand metric tonnes of maize after getting the necessary support through inputs.

“We thank the high priest for prompting and guiding us to this success. Mutumwa has taught us to use manure to ensure we obtain high yields. I want to thank President Mnangagwa for supporting us through command agriculture after receiving inputs covering 1 200 hectares. We are targeting 10 tonnes per hectare with the projected record yield of 12 000 tonnes expected,” he said.

The High priest Saint Noah Taguta is also leading by example after taking a keen interest in farming.

“I want to thank government for giving us inputs. I never went to town to look for employment but to focus on farming becoming one of the best cotton farmers taking the second position in the country. Since then, farming became part of my life. People who are given inputs should not sale inputs but should put the inputs to good use,” he said.

Traditional Grain Producers Association Chairperson Basil Nyabadza says such agricultural initiatives will be key in achieving vision 2030.

“The input of Mutumwa we are seeing here if replicated throughout the country, is a marathon towards achieving vision 2030 and implementation of the call made by president Mnangagwa that all people must play their part to achieve national goals. The middle-income status comes with practical deeds like these,” he said.

The positive success, places the country on a firm ground to retain its position as the bread basket of the region.
