Communities along the Nyazura-Chivhu road are excited at having their own sporting event following the launch of the Nyazura Marathon, whose proceeds will be channelled towards developmental projects along the route.
The launch of the Nyazura marathon by a local funeral service provider this Sunday has excited members of the local community saying wellness issues have no geographical boundaries.
“We are happy with the launch of this run. The issue of wellness should not be limited to geographical locations hence the significance of this race. There was a need for such events to be hosted by rural areas as sport is a unifier as well as promoting fitness among the locals. This is my first time running 20 kilometres. It is a very tough route and it challenged me. Every year this race should continue.”
Nyaradzo Group CEO, Phillip Mataranyika spoke on the objective of the marathon which will be increased by a kilometre every year.
“Commemorating 20 years of service for our organisation we had a 20-kilometre run recognising a year for every kilometre. We are going to be doing the run every year from now going forward. We will add one kilometre every year to the 20 that we had today. We will focus on developmental issues along the route that the run is taking as we are able to attract a number of corporates that will support us. The participation fee to be paid by partners will mostly go towards local development that includes schools and clinics.”
Apart from promoting wellness, the Nyazura Marathon will also promote sport and rural development.
