Major boost For Warriors as Musona returns to action

By ZBC Reporter

THE Zimbabwe Warriors have received a major boost ahead of their AFCON qualifiers set for the end of this month after Captain Knowledge Musona returned to action at the weekend.

The return of Belgian based forward is sweet music to the Warriors camp as Zimbabwe gears up for their back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia later this month.

The 30-year-old Warriors captain, who had been sidelined by an ankle injury since January, was thrust into the starting eleven in KAS Eupen’s 2-0 win over Sint –Truidense VV this Sunday.

While Musona’s return is an exciting development, there are doubts over the availability of the British brigade including Marvelous Nakamba who has laid his claim back into the Aston Villa first eleven and others such as Tendayi Darikwa of Nottingham forest, Bournemouth’s Jordan Zemura, Brandon Galloway of Luton Town, Wycombe Wanderers’ Admiral Muskwe and David Moyo of Hamilton Academical.

Star forward Khama Billiat, who suffered a leg fracture in January, is also doubtful as he is yet to return to full-fitness.

But, there is still depth in the squad with Lyon striker Tino Kadewere expected to give Logarusic more options while Turkey-based Teenage Hadebe and Alec Mudimu will also be up for selection given their recent consistent form.

The Warriors play Botswana on the 25th of this month in Gaborone before hosting Zambia on the 29 in Harare.

Zimbabwe are second in Group H of the qualifiers with five points, five behind leaders, Algeria who have already qualified for the next edition of AFCON.

With two teams from each group set to qualify for the football showpiece in Cameroon, Zimbabwe is assured of qualification with positive results against Botswana on four points and Zambia who have three.
