With health and wellness fast becoming a critical social value in society, a Harare-based female sports coach, Kimberly Chigwedere-Shoko has embarked on a fitness and wellness programme that focuses on women as part of celebrations for the National Youth Day.
The 33-year-old coach highlighted the importance of fitness as a social norm while encouraging more women to take up sport seriously.
“It is my hope that more women get more actively involved in sport. Sport is a unifier and it helps also on the health status of people.
“Health and wellness have become a critical social value and it is imperative for athletes to consider taking up these programmes seriously.
“And as we celebrate National Youth Day, this is part of our contribution as we eye to reach out to all provinces across the country,” she said.
Chigwedere-Shoko started taking fitness seriously in 2019 and is also a swimming, hockey and athletics coach.
She is also a committee member of the Harare Athletics Board.
