AFCON Preps on course: Warriors Manager

By Lawrence Trusida

The Warriors technical department is leaving nothing to chance as Zimbabwe prepares for the back to back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next month.

Zimbabwe takes on Botswana on the 22nd of March away from home before hosting Zambia a week later.

Reigning African Champions and Group H log leaders Algeria have already qualified for the AFCON with 10 points, while Zimbabwe are second with 5 points followed by Botswana on 4 and Zambia with 3 points.

Warriors’ General Manager Wellington Mpandare told ZBC News that preparations for the two matches are on course with the main focus being to ensure that Zimbabwe has a full strength squad.

“We have already started communicating with clubs and are happy that FIFA has come out against clubs that refuse to release players as they have imposed a hefty fine and also the players will also miss 5 matches after that.”

The team is still sweating over the fitness of Captain Knowledge Musona and star forward Khama Billiat.

It is, however, good news on the defensive end, with Marshal Munetsi and Teenage Hadebe back to full fitness and seeing regular action for their respective European clubs.
