Stage set for FC Platinum, Jaraaf CAF Confederation Cup playoff

By Skilder Makona
Zimbabwean champions, FC Platinum are ready for battle against Senegalese giants, ASC Jaraaf in a CAF Confederation Cup playoff set for the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The country’s representatives in the African Safari, FC Platinum have shifted focus to the second tier continental club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup, with a playoff date against ASC Jaraaf of Senegal on Sunday.
With the Zimbabwean champions having been demoted to the CAF Confederation Cup following a 4-1 aggregate loss to Tanzanian giants, Simba SC last month, FC Platinum will be looking to atone for the agonising exit from the Champions League.
FC Platinum are not new to the CAF Confederation Cup, having made their first appearance in 2015 when they lost to another Tanzanian side, Young Africans 5-2 on aggregate in the first round of the competition.
Sundays match looks set to be a blockbuster encounter featuring the Champions of Zimbabwe for the past three years and the dominant force in Senegalese football.
While ASC Jaraaf may not be familiar with Zimbabwean clubs, they are experienced campaigners in both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, having consistently represented Senegal on the African safari.
They are also the biggest and most successful club in Senegal, having won 28 major honours at home.
The club has produced Senegalese football legends like Henri Camara and the late Papa Bouba Diop, who represented their country at the FIFA World Cup.
