The banking sector has played a key role in the fight to contain the spread of Covid-19 after availing over 30 million Zimbabwe dollars since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The financial sector plays an important role in socio-economic development, with the Covid-19 pandemic having also affected its ability to achieve key targets.
While the sector is putting in place strategies to adapt and mitigate against the pandemic, data from the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) shows that financial institutions are also availing resources in the fight against the Covid- 19.
BAZ president Ralph Watungwa told the Zbc news that an excess of 30 million Zimbabwe dollars has been availed by banks.
“We are taking our part and we hope to extend more resources for the benefit of the nation.”
Zimbabwe is currently under lockdown with government, private sector and development partners mobilising more resources in the fight against the pandemic.
