ZIFA to host online coaching courses

By Skilder Makona

THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is planning to conduct online courses as part of efforts to capacitate local coaches with CAF qualifications before the resumption of football.

ZIFA is set to take a proactive approach in ensuring that local coaches have the required qualifications with the local football governing body planning to host online CAF courses in the absence of competitive action.

ZIFA Technical Director, Wilson Mutekede spoke on the need to capacitate coaches by capitalising on the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

“Yes it is very important that we utilise this time to capacitate coaches because there is no running league we will have much time to focus on that. But because of COVID-19 the new normal is the way to go where we encourage our coaches to conduct such courses online even with other FAs outside the country so that they refresh what they have and learn new trends since football has now become so dynamic and scientific.”

Mutekede added that they are expecting to host at least one of the CAF coaching courses within the next three months in compliance with the FIFA Club Licensing system.

“We have since engaged FIFA and CAF on the hosting of CAF courses since it has been a long time since we last had one in the country. However, we should be expecting this to happen within the next three months but obviously with the COVID-19 restrictions this again should be done virtually in line with the World Health Organisation guidelines to curb the spread of the disease.”

With the last CAF coaching course having been conducted three years ago, news that something would have happened by April this year should come as a huge relief for local coaches who have been starved off an opportunity to sharpen their coaching skills.
