ZIMBABWEAN coach, Kaitano Tembo’s SuperSport United have become the fourth club in the history of South African Premiership football to reach four figures after netting a landmark 1000th league goals in their 1-all draw against Moroka Swallows this Saturday.
With the club only two points shy of log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns, having amassed 28 points from 14 matches thus far, it is highly likely that if Tembo’s charges continue with their current form, any slip up buy Sundowns will work to their advantage.
Having played 761 league matches to date, Supersport has now joined Mamelodi Sundowns who have so far scored 1124, Orlando Pirates 1043 and Kaizer Chiefs 1036 in breaking the four-digit milestone.
Mathematically, Tembo’s men have averaged 1,3 goals per game in the Premier Soccer League era, dating back to the day they played in their nil draw opener away to Witbank Aces on August 11, 1996.
In their next league encounter, SuperSport will travel to Bloemfontein Celtic hoping for nothing but victory, as they are to keep their title hopes alive, and with 16 more games to go, it remains to be seen if Tembo and his squad will hold their own up to the last day.
Meanwhile, Warriors forward, Prince Dube scored a brace on his return to the stadium when his Azam FC beat KMC 3-1 in a friendly match in Tanzania this Saturday, while Admiral Muskwe was on the scoresheet when his Wycombe Wanderers side lost 2-7 to Brentford in the EFL Championship.
It was also good news for Zimbabwe international forward, Knox Mtizwa who inspired Golden Arrows to a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg with a 70th minute strike in the DStv Premier League, on a day his team-mate and fellow countrymen, Divine Lunga was named man of the match
