Clean bill of health for the warriors

By ZBC Reporter

THE Warriors go into their African Nations Championship (CHAN) opening match against hosts Cameroon this Saturday with a clean bill of health after all players were declared Covid-19 free.

The Warriors arrived in Cameroon this Thursday with the full complement of players before getting down to business in their first training session at the Annex Stadium.

Warriors General Manager, Wellington Mpandare confirmed that morale is high with no injury or health worries ahead of the tournament opener.

We have no injury worries, all our players are fit, we were tested at the airport yesterday and we all tested negative, and then again at the hospital ahead of the match tomorrow. We have more light training today but we believe that we are ready for the match and we will make the country proud, he said.

It is Zimbabwe’s fifth CHAN appearance and expectations are high that the Warriors will improve on a fourth-place finish they achieved in 2014.

They will however need to shrug off rust which has seen the domestic league being shelved since last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The match against Cameroon will be a stern test of character despite the fact that the hosts have never been to the last 8.

But it will be a different proposition as Cameroon are banking on home advantage and the backing of 10 thousand fans who will be allowed into the match venue.
