Warriors making headlines

Zimbabwean footballers continue to make headlines across Europe with in-form Warriors striker, Tino Kadewere topping the list after he was named in the first 11 of the French Ligue 1 for the first half of the 2020/21 season.

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team forward’s star continues to shine with each passing day after the 25-year-old striker overshadowed big names who include the Brazilian Neymar Jnr and Kylian Mbappe of France who have all, but failed to make into L’equipe’s first 11.

Kadewere, who has been in top form for Rudi Garcia’s side has so far netted seven times with three assists helping Lyon to maintain a top spot just a point ahead of PSG who are second on 39 after 19 matches.

Elsewhere, Warriors defender Tendayi Darikwa has joined English League One side Wigan Athletic on a short term contract until the end of the season.

Conforming the news, Wigan Athletic took to twitter to welcome the player saying they are delighted to have him on their books.

Darikwa joins the Latics from English Championship side Nottingham Forest after the defender fell out of favour at the club.

Since being ruled out of action due to a career-threatening knee injury last year, the Zimbabwe international has failed to make a mark at the club and has not featured in any of the team’s matches thus far.

On the international stage, Darikwa has been a key player for the Warriors since making his debut Zimbabwe on November 8, 2017 in a 1-0 friendly defeat away to Lesotho.

Another Zimbabwe international defender, Alec Mudimu is believed to have also completed his move to Turkish side, Ankarapor FC after spending just one season at Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol.

Ankarapor plays in the TFF 1, the second tier of Turkish football.

Mudimu joins his countrymen and Warriors centre-back partner, Teenage Hadebe in Turkey, who turns out for Turkish Super Lig side Yeni Malatyaspor.
