Soccer updates featuring Zim players worldwide

With football being played elsewhere across the globe, the weekend action brought with it some mixed fortunes for Zimbabwean players plying their trade abroad.

Warriors defender, Jordan Zemura was at his usual best for Bournemouth when they hammered Oldham Athletic 4-1 in the FA Cup 3rd round clash at Dean Court on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe international, who was pivotal at the heart of Bournemouth’s defence, was then substituted after 79 minutes on the pitch.

Elsewhere in the competition, Warriors hopeful Admiral Muskwe put up a good show on his debut for English Championship side, Wycombe Wanderers in their impressive 4-1 victory over Preston in an FA Cup encounter on Saturday.

Muskwe, who made the first 11, created the opening goal as early as the 3rd minute to steer his side to a comfortable victory to progress to the next round of the tournament.

In the Segunda Division B in Spain, 22-year-old goalkeeper Martin Mapisa kept a clean sheet for Zamora as they edged RC Deportivo at the Estadio Ruta de la Plata on Sunday.

The Zimbabwean goalminder also made the starting 11 for Zamora’s 1-4 loss to Villarreal in the second round of the Copa Del Rey on Tuesday.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Warriors centre back Teenage Hadebe was on the losing end as his Yeni Malatyaspor suffered a shock 0-1 defeat at the hands of Kayserispor.

Despite being introduced after the breather, Hadebe managed to put a decent performance.

Elsewhere, Tino Kadewere gave defenders a lot of trouble as Lyon played to a 2-2 stalemate with Rennes in French Lig 1.

The Zimbabwe international featured for 67 minutes before being replaced by Rayan Cherki.

Warriors holding midfielder Marshall Munetsi featured for 34 minutes in Stade de Reims’ 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne at Stade Auguste-Delaune ll on Saturday.

It was, however, bad news for Warriors captain, Knowledge Musona who picked an ankle injury during KAS Eupen’s 4-1 defeat to Genk, with the player expected to recover next month.

Across the Limpopo, it was the same script for Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat, who also picked a knock during his side’s 0-2 loss to Maritzburg United in the DStv Premiership.

On a better note, Ovidy Karuru was on target in Black Leopards 1-1 stalemate with Stellenbosch, while midfielder Butholezwe Ncube and Talent Chawapihwa featured in AmaZulu’s 1-1 draw against Ronald Pfumbidzai’s Bloemfontein Celtic.
