The International Handball Federation Zone 6 Challenge Trophy which was scheduled for this month has been further postponed to next year owing to a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases globally.
The further postponement of the Zone 6 handball Challenge Trophy has come as no surprise, in the wake of increasing COVID-19 cases in the region and globally.
The postponement has, however, given Zimbabwe more time to prepare for the tournament.
“Due to Covid-19, the tournament will now be held next year as agreed by other regional countries. Actual dates are not yet out but we are certain we will host the event in 2021. Also, this development will give us time to fully prepare and make sure everything is in order before the games begin in Harare,” Zimbabwe Handball Federation Secretary-General Edison Chirowodza said.
Zimbabwe won the bid to host the handball fiesta and nine regional countries are expected to grace the event at a date yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation is set to hold its elective congress on January 23, 2021, with nominations expected to start next week.
