Economic stability: Church, business leaders commend govt

By Sifiso Sibanda

The church and the business community have praised the government’s economic development drive saying the current stability has ensured the country remains peaceful.

Addressing congregates in Bulawayo at the National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service this Sunday, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi of the Zion Christian Church hailed government initiatives on the economy saying the Transitional Stabilisation Programme managed to set the tone for the National Development Strategy One which is the bridge to Vision2030.

“We had a difficult year, 2020, due to Covid-19 but the strategies that were put in place by the government are working and as the church, we are supporting our government for the good work they are doing
and we want them to continue.”

His sentiments were echoed by other men of the cloth who included the leader of the Pastors Fraternal Reverend Frank Mhlanga and Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Vice President Mr Michael Phiri who concurred that the government has created an investor-friendly environment that has resulted in the local businesses expanding and diversifying their enterprises.

Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Judith Ncube, thanked the President for gracing the occasion and took the opportunity to encourage people to continue following Covid-19 guidelines.

“We are so happy as the city to have the President presiding over the national thanksgiving and dedication service and I also want to remind people that Covid-19 is still with us so let’s follow the health guidelines at all times.”

The National Thanksgiving and Dedication Service has become an annual prayer ceremony for the country.
