The Nakamba and Kadewere foundations have honoured junior coach, Albert Dube for his contribution towards grassroots talent identification.
Famously known as Alibaba, Albert Dube is a renowned junior football development coach, who mentored the majority of yesteryear and today’s Zimbabwean football stars.
Alibaba is also credited for scouting talent for Highlanders as well as junior national teams.
With all the contributions he made for the beautiful game, Alibaba joins the majority of football legends, whose history has gone uncelebrated.
However, unlike others, Alibaba was lucky to have his contribution recognised by the Nakamba and Kadewere foundations that organised a surprise 73rd birthday for a man who coached the likes of the Ndlovu brothers; Madinda, the late Adam and former Warriors skipper, Peter, as well as the pair of Warriors stars; Marvellous Nakamba and Tinotenda Kadewere.
Those who had an opportunity to meet the man during his coaching career which began in 1976, spoke on how the man conducted trials for Highlanders.
His daughter, Rachel Dube spoke on how they had to live life with a man who had all his sights on junior football development.
“I am happy to have Ali as my father .ali would use his resources to hold the end of year parties for juniors.”
Alibaba was presented with the Nakamba’s Aston Villa jersey as well as Kadewere’s Lyon jersey and the new Highlanders replica jersey.
Brian Moyo from the Nakamba foundation presented the token of appreciation from the two Zimbabwean stars.
Alibaba expressed gratitude to both Warriors stars.
Without the mention of Alibaba, the history of junior football in Zimbabwe can never be told fully.
