Zimbabwe Volleyball Association elective congress on the cards

THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association(ZVA) has announced the nominees for the 2020 elective congress set to be held in Masvingo on the 5th of this month.
The outgoing ZVA President Ringisai Mapondera indicated earlier in the year that he was not seeking re-election and that meant a new face will take over going into the next decade.
With nominations having been finalised, Mxolisi Ndlovu and Tawanda Sithole will be vying for the top post in the Association.
The two are already in the ZVA structures with Ndlovu being the current treasurer, while Sithole is the Secretary-General.
ZBC News caught up with Sithole who said the COVID-19 pandemic has come with several lessons with his focus on getting things right.
“When disaster strikes, priorities shift, we tended to rely on what government can do for you but I have learnt that we can do things better, it’s time to go for partnerships and sponsorship that can sustain the sport beyond a season,” he said.
“We have to put a structure that is sustainable and is a disaster, I would like to put in innovative and creative means to run the association.”
The former national team player also believes volleyball has the potential to be turned into big business in line with international trends, where the sport is one of the biggest employers.
“Volleyball is big business in the world, what stops us from replicating what has been done by those who have done it before, what is stopping us from selling players, we need to now start marking sure that we develop the right calibre of players who are sellable and its already an income generation programme.”
While Manifestos have in the past been prepared with some catching the eye, what matters most is delivery and the next four years will be the answer to the question on who is the right man for the job.
