COSAFA Under20: Young Warriors’ opening match end in a stalemate

By ZBC Reporter
THE Young Warriors kicked off their COSAFAUnder-20 championship with a two-all draw against hosts South Africa Thursday.

It was late drama as the teams shared the points in what was possibly a fair result, though leaving both coaches disappointed.

Zimbabwe took the lead through Panashe Mutimbanyoka when he headed home from a corner kick after nine minutes.

South Africa hit back in the opening seconds of the second half, with Oswin Appollis providing a neat finish to draw level.

They had a number of chances after that and were perhaps unlucky not to take the lead when Zimbabwe goalkeeper Raphel Pitisi appeared to carry the ball back over his line.

However, minutes later it was Zimbabwe who took the lead, again from a corner with Lexington Mujokoro bundling the ball into the net after South Africa failed to clear.

Zimbabwe was, however, denied victory by a lapse in concentration with South Africa equalizing box deep into added time.

The tournament is also serving as a qualifier for the TOTAL Under-20 AFCON slated for Mauritania next year.
