Team Zimbabwe gets down to business for Tokyo Olympic

THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee held a Team Zimbabwe seventh meeting with team managers of national associations whose sport-persons still have a chance of qualifying for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

With sport slowly getting back to action, focus is now shifting to the Tokyo Olympic Games, which will now be held next year having been postponed due to COVID-19.

This Saturday, the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee held the seventh Team Zimbabwe meeting with national associations that still stand a chance of having qualifying athletes to the global sporting jamboree.

These disciplines include aquatics, athletics, boxing, equestrian, golf, judo, rowing and rugby.

The meeting sought to ensure all are clear on expectations and requirements to meet the set standards.

“In terms of the meeting focus, we were looking at the status of where we are as Zimbabwe in terms of preparing for the games. The major administrative issues that we needed to discuss and finalise had to do with the accreditation requirements where we were sharing on photographs profiles and information needed for the process. WE also had issue of passports that they should be valid till the 28th of February 2022,” he said.

Zimbabwe has a target of sending about 9 athletes to the games.

Other issues touched on related to anti-doping and the importance of athletes’ whereabouts knowledge.
