Warriors squad expected in camp next week for CHAN preparations

Warriors head coach, Zdravko Logarusic is confident of smooth preparations for the forthcoming CHAN tournament, saying the tourney will provide a platform for locally-based players to prove their worth.

Locally-based national soccer team players are expected to troop into camp next week as Zimbabwe kick-starts preparations for the CHAN tournament scheduled for January in Cameroon.

After a brilliant performance that saw the Warriors getting a crucial point against Algeria, head coach, Zdravko Logarusic is bullish of an impressive showing in Cameroon.

The Warriors’ gaffer who was recently in the resort town of Victoria Falls said the only worry in as far as CHAN preparations are concerned is the lack of game time for local players.

“From next week we are starting preparations for the CHAN tournament that is for locally-based players and after that, we prepare for our trip to Cameroon in January. We have to play the opening game in January against Cameroon for CHAN. After that, we will turn our attention to the game against Botswana scheduled for March.”

Logarusic, who was in Zimbabwe’s tourism capital for the first time, spoke positively about the potential of the destination and expressed hope that one day the resort town will have a team in the topflight league.

“I am enjoying this part of Zimbabwe and it is my first time being in this resort town. My first question however was do we have a local club in the premier league or a team that can be part of the top-flight league in future. I certainly do believe that this part of the country deserves a team in the premier league.”

The Croatian who was unveiled earlier this year by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) as the new Warriors’ coach on a two-year deal, has a UEFA Pro Licence and CAF licence.

He has coached the Sudanese national team and top clubs in Ghana, Kenya, Angola and Tanzania.
