Private sector commended for partnering govt in developing communities

The private sector has been commended for complementing government efforts to achieve the country’s aspirations through sustainable business practices and giving back to the community.

Speaking at this year’s Corporate Social Responsibility Awards held in Harare on Wednesday evening, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima commended companies who were nominated for the awards for devoting resources to empower local communities.

“We have set ourselves a vision to achieve by the year 2030 and it is incumbent upon selflessly dedicated citizens to apply their resources and skills to empower local communities they operate in, to uplift the local economies as well as the living standards of people.”

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu challenged companies to adopt eco-friendly green technologies.

“As Government, we are excited about these awards which honour companies who adhere to set environmental regulations keeping in mind we cannot pursue our vision at the detriment of our environment.”

ZBC Mashonaland Central Bureau Chief Tapiwa Machemedze scooped the Sustainability reporter of the year Award, while other winners revelled in being honoured for giving back to the community.

“ I am excited for having been recognised for this award because it motivates me to continue making awareness towards sustainable operations by companies,” said Machemedze.

Of late companies, have adopted robust corporate social responsibility policies which have helped in empowering local citizens and honouring them has become instrumental in driving positive change in the socio-economic development of the country.
