The much-awaited labour Amendment Bill will be finalised by the first quarter of next year as the government steps up efforts to facilitate labour reforms for the benefit of industry and commerce.
The 2020 labour briefing held this Wednesday created an opportunity for stakeholders to assess the impact of the Covid-19 on productivity, efficiency and employment creation.
While it emerged that the pandemic has created challenges on productivity, issues concerning the government’s policies on restoring confidence came under the spotlight.
The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Professor Paul Mavhima assured stakeholders that the government will finalise the Labour Amendment Bill to facilitate a favourable operating environment for firms.
Institute of People Management in Zimbabwe President, Dr Phil Chitagu said business is ready to work with government on issues relating to productivity.
“We are always willing to talk with the government so that we can reach out to all the relevant stakeholders.”
Recommendations at the briefing included the need to strengthen social dialogue, respect for workers rights, an efficient workforce and a favourable labour market among others.
