Sport stakeholders say continuous capacitation of administrators through sports management courses is key for the growth and development of sports in the country.
Over the years, sport development in the country has taken a nosedive, hence the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee took a stance to capacitate stakeholders in various sporting disciplines.
Some of the stakeholders who undertook an Advanced Sports Management Course, which ended in Harare this Sunday, believe the programme will help administrators and players in the sporting landscape to come up with tangible solutions to the problems bedevilling the sector.
This programme is result-oriented and hands-on, I am happy to be part of this intake it has been an eye-opener towards the growth and development of different sport codes in the country. I believe it’s high time Zimbabwe claim its place up there on the sporting map and this can be achieved when we put into practice what we have learnt here,” said Harare Polytechnic Sports Administrator Tsitsi Kufa.
“ASMC is the potential game-changer as it gives insight to what will be happening on the ground and proffer practical solutions. I am happy that especially coming from a media background and acquiring such knowledge, it will help us on how we do our jobs and how best we can assist towards the growth and development of sport in the country. It is time we shy away from celebrating just qualifications but focus on producing podium finish athletes,” Sunday Mail Sports Editor Petros Kausiyo said.
One of the programme directors, Titus Zvomuya has, however, pointed out the need to continuously capacitate sport stakeholders in the country if Zimbabwe is to reach dizzy heights.
“There’s no way we can talk of development without capacitating those in the field of sport, over the years associations and athletes have been blamed because of lack of knowledge but now I am sure with such courses we will be able to harness the fruits of development.”
The 1-year long Advanced Sports Management Course intake 21, attracted 21 participants from across the country.
