Stakeholders hail Zim Cricket development strategy

By ZBC Reporter

Zimbabwe Cricket’s new development strategy has been described as a game-changer towards the growth and development of the sport in the country.

This comes after the success of the Inaugural National Premier League (NPL) which saw nine teams from various parts of the country facing off over two months.

“The new administration is doing wonderful and we are quite happy to see competitive cricket once again. This has been the missing link were players were starved of game time and the introduction of the women’s game as well is a step in the right direction as it will help them improve their game,” said Former Cricket Administrator Godfrey Koti.

Cricket Analyst/ Commentator Goodwin Mhamhiyo had this to say; “The tournaments will surely give impetus to players to want to achieve more and also helps the selectors of the national team to have a wide pool to build a strong formidable side. The issue of continuity also comes into play here we applaud the leaders at ZC for such a sterling job.”

Zimbabwe Cricket launched the NPL league, the Women’s Fifty50 Challenge as well as the T20, which gave players more game time and provided a platform for upcoming cricketers to showcase their talent in competitive matches.

“Kudos goes to especially Hamilton Masakadza [Director of Cricket] he has been working tirelessly to put the sport back on the map and his appointment is a plus to the association as he has brought about many initiatives to improve our standards of the game,” said ZC Board Chair Tavengwa Mukuhlani.

When it comes to the Women’s game, the competitive Fifty50 and T20 encounters have given them an opportunity to horn their skills while it is also turning out to be a major boost towards the growth and development of the sport.
