Warriors force 2 all draw against Algeria

By Skilder Makona

It was a four goal thriller at the National Sports Stadium as Zimbabwe forced a two-all draw against Reigning African Champions, Algeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the National Sports Stadium this Monday.

Just like the script was in Algiers last week when Zimbabwe created early chances but failed to convert, the Warriors were punished by the visitors when Andy Delort headed home from close range to give Algeria the lead.

Without giving the hosts time to regroup, the African champions doubled their lead four minutes later when Manchester City forward and Desert Foxes captain Riyad Mahrez danced around the Warriors defence before slotting home.

However, the Warriors did not give up and pulled one back just before the half time break after Captain Knowledge Musona showed both class and composure to slot the ball home from a free kick won by striker Tino Kadewere.

Zimbabwe came back a rejuvenated side in the second half when Coach Zdravko Logarusic made four substitutes introducing Divine Lunga, Ovidy Karuru, Kuda Mahachi and Khama Billiat.

However, it was “The Prince”, Prince Dube who had the final say when he equalised for Zimbabwe with his first touch in the 82nd minute after replacing defender, Tendayi Darikwa who had another fine outing.

In the end, it was a 2-all draw giving Zimbabwe a better chance of progressing to the AFCON finals set for Cameroon in 2022.
