RHINOS asserted their dominance over Mountaineers in the Women’s Fifty50 Challenge at Takashinga Cricket Club, while Eagles cemented their position at the top in the T20 tournament.

It was a fun-filled weekend for cricket enthusiasts as the women’s game provided the much-anticipated excitement much to the amazement of the custodians of the game and tournament organisers.

In the Fifty overs challenge, Rhinos once again proved their superiority over Mountaineers after an impressive 43 run win at Takashinga Cricket Club at the weekend.

Despite being bowled out for 128 after 41.4 overs, Rhinos restricted Mountaineers to 85 all out in 29.4 overs.

In a show of excellent and tactical discipline, Rhinos’ Josephine Nkomo with an unbeaten 44 was duly named Player of the Match.

In another match, Eagles captain Modester Mupachikwa inspired her side to an 8 wicket victory over Tuskers following her match-winning unbeaten 50 off 59 balls in a mouth-watering clash at Kwekwe Sports Club.

The struggling Tuskers, who won the toss and elected to bat first, were bowled out after a paltry 86 in 23.5 overs, leaving the Eagles with an easy task of which they registered 87/2 in 21.3 overs.

In the Women’s T20 Cup, Eagles cemented their position at the top after registering their 4th win dehorning Tuskers by 7 wickets at Kwekwe Sports Club.

Kellies Ndlovu of Eagles was the star of the day for her unbeaten 22 off 30 balls and was inevitably voted the Player of the Match.

In a twist of fate at Takashinga Cricket Club, Mountaineers recorded their first T20 Cup victory trouncing Rhinos by 5 wickets.

In a match where it seemed they were doomed, needing 20 runs off 24 balls after 16 overs, the Mountaineers played with determination to turn the tables with 7 balls to go.
They then settled for 95/5 in 18.5 overs against Rhinos 94/7 to claim a 5 wicket victory and register their first T20 win.

Despite being on the losing side, Lady Chevrons skipper Marry-Anne Musonda remains in a class of her own as she scooped the Player of the Match award with a 61 off 50 ball top-drawer performance.
