GOVERNMENT projects are dominating building contractor’s business activities leading to sustained recovery and growth on the back of stability in the economy.
Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association junior vice president, Dr Tinashe Manzungu says government’s key infrastructure projects including dam and road construction as well as civil works, among others, have lifted the performance of the sector.
“Indeed while it has not been all that rosy we are now just waiting to see what we can do in the future to sustain growth and viability at a time stability has also had a positive effect on our operations,” he said.
Willdale Bricks chief executive officer, Engineer Nyasha Matonda said the company’s order book has mainly been boosted by stability and government projects.
“We have seen an upsurge in the level of activity by the governed and it is through such civil works whereby we are now anticipating a rise in terms of volumes going forward,” he said.
Women building contractors spoke on the need to ensure gender balance in the male-dominated industry.
In a statement, the building contractors also revealed that the relaxation of measures allowing foreign currency for domestic trading and the introduction of a foreign currency auction system has created favourable business operating conditions for several firms within the sector.
