ZIMBABWE senior netball team vice-captain, Felistas Kwangwa has made international headlines after joining English netball side Surrey Storm.
Zimbabwe Netball Gems vice-captain Felistas Kwangwa is set to raise the country’s netball bar high after moving to Surrey Storm whose senior team plays in the English Netball Superleague.
Kwangwa attracted huge interest from the English team after being crowned the Best Player at the Telkom Challenge in South Africa in 2019 before scooping the woman of the match twice at the Vitality Liverpool Netball World Cup that same year.
“We are proud to have produced a player of such calibre who has attracted interest from the English side, it is a sign that our netball is moving in the right direction. Felistas is one of our best players and it came as no surprise that she was picked by Surrey Storm. She is a player who has always worked hard and tries to achieve greater things. We are very honoured to be represented at such big leagues,” they said.
The humble Gems vice-captain says she will remain focused on her career and believes hard work will be key to achieving more, while her father paid tribute to the Almighty.
“I am highly honoured to be part of the Surrey Storm, it is a huge milestone for me and the netball family in Zimbabwe. I promise to continue doing well on and off the field and open doors for others in lucrative netball leagues,” said Felitas
“I am happy that my daughter has made it this far, we thank God for that and I hope she will continue to excel. I want to thank all those who supported her from the onset and it was always her dream to play for big teams and big leagues especially outside the country,” she said.
Kwangwa has represented the country at both junior and senior-level having made her debut for Zimbabwe in 2012.
Nicknamed, ‘Minister of Defense’ for her exploits at the 2019 Netball World Cup, Kwangwa was appointed vice-captain of the Gems in 2015.
