THE Zimbabwe senior men national football team, the Warriors are confident of their chances against African Champions Algeria ahead of their back to back AFCON qualifiers.
Morale is high in the Warriors camp as the team braces for the crunch back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against continental champions, Algeria at the Stade du 5 Juillet on the 12th of this month before hosting the North Africans at the National Sports Stadium four days later.
The Warriors, who held their last training session this Tuesday, a few hours before departing for Algeria are oozing with confidence and are hopeful they will hold their own when they clash against the African giants on Thursday.
“I am happy to be part of this team as the only local-based player and given a chance I want to prove myself that the call-up wasn’t a mistake. But for now, will focus on the team and not individual play, hence we are not worried about Algeria or the team rankings,” said King Nadolo.
“It is an honour to play for my country it has been my dream and I am positive we can produce good results given the talent Zimbabwe has and the current crop of players in the national team,” said Jordan Zemura.
“Given the chance, I am going to play at my usual best and try to score goals for my country. I have been scoring in Tanzania and so is my hope to replicate such form when we play these AFCON qualifiers,” said Prince Dube.
“It’s amazing to be [part of this team and be back home with family and friends, however, our focus will remain on winning matches and proceed to the Cameroon AFCON finals. I hope to do my best and play to the best of my ability and bring favourable results for us to qualify,” said Alec Mudimu.
Algeria top Group H with 6 points while Zimbabwe is second with four points, Botswana third with a point while Zambia anchor the log standings after losing their first two matches. Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, France based Tino Kadewere, Turkey-based Teenage Hadebe and David Moyo who is based in Scotland have arrived ahead of the departure this evening on a chartered plane to Algeria.
