City status set to unlock Victoria Falls potential

THE Victoria Falls community is upbeat that the granting of city status to the resort town will help unlock potential of the destination and attract much-needed investments.

Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association Chinotimba Chapter Secretary General, Mr Trymore Ndolo is confident the development will bring good fortunes to the destination which is also Zimbabwe’s tourism capital.

“We are a tourist destination and we are hopeful a lot of people will want to come and invest in our town. We are looking forward to increased economic activities around town and there are opportunities as well to twin with other cities around the globe,” he said.

Employers Association for the Tourism and Safari Operators President, Mr Clement Mukwasi is upbeat the development is likely to spur tourist traffic and provide opportunities for twinning arrangements with other renowned destinations.

 “This is a city that is meant to grow even higher and higher. A city that is the highest observer of environmental principles in the country and the first-born city of the new dispensation. As the  tourism industry we are really excited about the development,” explained Mukwashi.

Home to one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the breathtaking Victoria Falls which was accorded the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1989 was also designated as a  Special Economic Zone with focus on tourism and financial services.
