By Skilder Makona

Young Mighty Warriors coach, Annie Konje is upbeat her charges will perform to expectations at the COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship which will run from November 4 to 14 at the Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa.

After going through intensive training at the ZIFA Village in Mt Hampden, head coach Annie Konje said the girls are raring to go.

“I believe the girls are ready and are raring to go when they travel to South Africa. Since the time we’ve been in camp, I could see the team is hungry for the game and I am quite positive that they will do well and or produce better results. It has been a long time since the absence of football due to COVID-19 but we hope for the best since the girls are hungry for the competition.”

It will be a debut appearance at the competition for Zimbabwe, who missed out at the inaugural competition in Mauritius last year.

Zimbabwe will open their campaign in the round-robin competition against South Africa on November 6 before facing Comoros Islands two days later, Tanzania on the 10th and finally Zambia on November 12.

The initial 28 member squad has since been trimmed down to 18 ahead of the team’s scheduled travel to South Africa on the 3rd of November.
