The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has intensified the ongoing drive to promote domestic tourism, with a new campaign set to be launched this Thursday.
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has projected a faster recovery of domestic tourism compared to international tourism post-covid-19, amid calls for different destinations to harness the domestic market.
In an interview ahead of the launch of the campaign dubbed, ZIMbho#Vakatsha campaign, ZTA Head of Corporate Communications, Godfrey Koti says the authority will continue to prioritise domestic tourism.
“Under the Tourism Recovery and Growth strategy there are three key pillars namely domestic, regional and international tourism,” said Koti.
“For now we are focusing our attention on the domestic market and we have started addressing issues around it chief among them the pricing model.
Apart from encouraging Zimbabweans to take pride in the diverse tourism offerings and visit local destinations, the ZIMbho#Vakatsha campaign is also a celebration of the country’s rich culture and unique attractions.
As part of efforts to support domestic travel, treasury announced a waiver on Value Added Tax (VAT) payable by domestic tourists for accommodation and availed a 20 million Zimbabwe dollar tourism revolving fund to support the recovery of tourism-related businesses.
On their part, many tourism players are coming up with special packages tailor-made for domestic tourists.
