The small-scale sector has been commended for its role in circumventing the illegal economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by Western countries.

Unveiling a new vending warehouse in Bulawayo this Sunday, the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni praised SMEs for keeping the economy afloat in the face of the illegal economic embargo.

“This sector has been key in the Zimbabwean economy, sanctions have hurt everybody. The SMEs has been vigilant. As a sector, we need to bust these sanctions by continuing to work hard.”

SMEs Secretary-General, Mr Dumisani Ncube said the sector has grown tremendously and accommodated those frustrated by the economically-choked formal sector.

“Since productivity in the country dropped, highly educated and skilled personnel have nowhere to ply their trade and end up pushed into the SMEs sector.”

Small scale traders were also encouraged to use designated sites to access government assistance.
