THE export growth strategies rolled out by national trade development & promotion organisation, ZimTrade are bearing fruit with exports having gone up by almost five percent this year.
A leap in exports to Eswatini formerly Swaziland from less than a million US dollars in 2017 to 27 million in 2019 is one of the major milestones achieved by Zimbabwe in export growth strategies enshrined in the Transitional Stabilization Programme which comes to an end this year.
Local companies have also penetrated several regional markets in the region including Botswana with Seychelles and Zambia also seeing a record number of Zimbabwean products.
Trade promotion body, Zimtrade which oversees trade missions on the continent is therefore set to honour exporters who have been part of this success story
“We are going to award all those who realised growth in exports as it signifies the success of all the trade missions we did over the years. These awards will encourage other exporters to enter foreign markets in line with the country’s economic development agenda of achieving an upper-middle-income country by the year 2023,” she said.
Ms Mafu said the unprecedented growth in merchandise exports will help reduce the trade deficit and create a further springboard for export growth under the new five-year economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy.
