The Draw for the 2020 COSAFA Women’s championship has been conducted with Zimbabwe being placed in a what looks like a fair group.
Hosts and defending champions, South Africa are the top seeds in Group A and have been drawn alongside Eswatini, Comoros and Angola in what will be a tough pool expected to provide some fierce battles.
Another regional powerhouse Zambia are in Group B where they will come up against old foes Malawi and Lesotho, while Group C contains 2011 Champions, Zimbabwe who will square off against Botswana and Tanzania.
Sithethelwelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda’s charges should expect fierce competition from the East African guest side Tanzania while Botswana has also been steadily improving over the last couple of years.
Only the top team in each pool and the best runner-up advance to the semifinals.
The competition set to take place in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa between the 3rd to the 14th of next month will see 13 countries taking part as women’s football makes a welcome return on the continent.
The COSAFA Women’s Under-17 Championship will also be played concurrently with the Senior tournament and features five countries in a single pool which will be played on a round-robin basis.
The five teams are hosts South Africa, Comoros, Tanzania, defending champions Zambia and Zimbabwe.
