PSL: Chicken Inn bemoans lack of clarity on road map for resumption of football

By ZBC Reporter

Bulawayo based, Premier Soccer League side, Chicken Inn has joined other clubs in bemoaning lack of clarity on the road map for the resumption of football in the country.

While the announcement for the resumption of football action has been received with celebration from a cross section of fans, most clubs are still in the dark on the road map.

One such Club is 2015 Premier Soccer League Champions, Chicken Inn whose Secretary General, Tavengwa Hara revealed they are yet to receive formal communication from the PSL and ZIFA.

While noting that the Gamecocks are eager to get back on the field of play, Hara is of the opinion that the big elephant in the room is the issue of player contracts with ZIFA still mum on the course of action.

“It’s a very difficult situation we are in now. You will see that very few teams will be having players who will join that bubble because very few have players who are going to spend the whole year with them,” Tavengwa Hara says.

“The season is supposed to end in November and most of them have contracts expiring.

What we are doing now is that we work with the little resources which we have and to approach the sponsor for him to help us extend the players’ contracts.

“We are, however, extending these players’ contracts without knowing when the league is going to start.

“It is going to be another problem. We should be planning and budgeting for a competitive full season not for a six week training period and a two week tournament which we are not yet aware of.

It’s only coming in the newspapers and we have not yet been approached on that issue.”

Most of the player contracts are set to expire at the end of the year with some having moved to other clubs without kicking a ball this season.

Hara also stressed that it will not be easy to convince sponsors to partner them without a clearly laid out road map.

To further compound the situation, the nature of the proposed two-week tournament, its format and prize money have all not been made known to the participating teams, something that does not foster any confidence.
