THE Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors played out to a nil-all draw against Malawi in an international friendly at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre this Sunday afternoon.
The Zimbabwe Warriors settled for nil-all draw against the Flames of Malawi in an international friendly which lacked the spark and creativity.
Judging from the performance of the two teams in the field of play, it is evident that the COVID-19 induced lockdown has had a heavy knock on the players.
Malawi dominated the match and could have secured victory early in the first half but missed a host of chances.
The way the Flames played did not seem like a team which is coming from another international friendly with Zambia earlier in the week.
Back to the Warriors, it was a reality check for Coach Zdravko Logarusic and his technical team ahead of the Warriors’ crucial back to back AFCON qualifiers against Algeria next month.
The Warriors squad lacked the rhythm and coordination.
Charlton Mashumba missed a sitter from Divine Lunga and Khama Billiat could not replicate the magic he once produced when Zimbabwe last played Malawi in June 2015 at their own backyard, a match which the Warriors eventually won 2-1.
