THE country’s mining sector is set to benefit from the construction of the first mining explosives manufacturing plant at Intrachem in Kwekwe which is almost complete.
Speaking during the progress assessment tour of Intrachem industry in Kwekwe this Thursday, Industry and Commerce Minister, Dr Sekai Nzenza said capacitation of local industries is government’s priority.
“I am pleased by the company’s progress; this initiative will help import substitution and will see the company as one of the best exporters of explosives….,” she said.
Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Larry Mavhima underscored the importance of embracing provincial economic development through utilisation of local industries.
“We want this industry not only to transform the mining sector only but also the Midlands province should benefit economically from the industry…,” he said.
Intrachem Chief executive officer, Mr Langton Nyandoro implored government to continue supporting industrial growth.
“I present this to you our hon Minster, for us to be competitive we need a hand from your ministry and we will assure you of more production..,” he said.
The implementation of the Zimbabwe National Industrial Development Policy is taking shape, with focus on resuscitating strategic industries to foster economic growth towards an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
