Victoria Falls International Airport has welcomed its first international flight since the re-opening of the country’s skies with the local tourism sector hopeful the development signals a new beginning.

Ethiopian Airlines became the latest to resume services as more global carriers continue to re-launch commercial services into Victoria Falls.

The airline’s Boeing 737-800 landed at the upgraded Victoria Falls International Airport Tuesday afternoon to a rousing welcome from the tourism industry players.

Local customer services agent, Devine Phiri, said the airline is pleased to resume services into Zimbabwe’s prime tourism resort.

“We are excited to be back in the beautiful destination which is home to one of the seven natural wonders of world. We remain committed to facilitate travel and promote tourism,” said Phiri.

Regarded as the ‘World’s Adventure Capital’, Victoria Falls has over the years remained a destination of choice international tourists.

Passengers who were on Ethiopian Airline’s flight and stakeholders in the Victoria Falls tourism value chain welcomed the airline’s return amid high expectations that the hospitality sector will emerge much stronger after the devastating COVID-19 forced lockdown.

“As the Victoria Falls tourism industry we are excited about the return of Ethiopian Airlines to this destination.

“We ready to welcome our visitors to this popular destination and to give them a taste of Zimbabwean hospitality,” said a local tourism operator.

As more airlines return to the country’s skies, Zimbabwe has prioritised a cautious approach in ensuring a safe restart of tourism sector activities.
