The Zimbabwe Football Association says players who will feature in the international friendly against Malawi on the 11th of this month will be selected based on the previous performances, with foreign-based players expected to fly straight to Lilongwe

Player selection for the Warriors’ international friendly against Malawi set for Lilongwe on the 11th of this month has been a topical issue and with no domestic football action to talk about in the country since the beginning of the year.

Football fans were therefore left wondering which criteria will be used to select players ahead of the tie.

While putting an end to the heated debate, ZIFA President Felton Kamambo says they will select the players based on previous performances.

“We are going to use the previous performances with the foreign-based players expected to fly straight to Lilongwe where they will join other local based ones. Since this will be preparatory there will also be new faces in the Warriors fold whom we think can make the cut.”

The ZIFA President also hinted on another possible friendly against the Cranes of Uganda which is likely to be played in Dubai before the Malawi tie.

“Uganda has approached us for a possible friendly match on the 7th of this month before we play Malawi but we are yet to finalise on all the modalities since they want the game to be played in Dubai.”

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe senior men national team coach, Zdravko Logarusic is expected in the country on Sunday to take charge of the team and announce his squad for the international friendlies.
