Chiefs expected to play a role in peace building and conflict resolution

The Vice President Hon. Kembo Mohadi had a meeting today with the Matabeleland North Chiefs in a quest to discuss traditional and cultural approaches to peace building and conflict resolution. This was a second meeting which the Vice President has conducted with chiefs, the first one was held in Mashonaland Central.

The discussion was based on preservation of culture and heritage of communities, peace building and conflict resolution as per traditions.

During the dialogue the Chiefs raised a concern with young generation which does not follow traditions

“Chiefs are the custodians of our traditions and culture. Our constitution states the status of the chiefs as follows, traditional leaders under customary law are recognised to be the custodians of our culture” said the Vice President, Kembo Mohadi.

The Vice president also indicated that he is yet to visit all other provinces around the country initiating traditional and cultural approaches to peace building and conflict resolution.
