Cigar wrapper tobacco goes under the hammer

The 3rd cigar wrapper tobacco marketing season has commenced in earnest in Burma Valley Manicaland with the highest price being $6.50 while the lowest quality crop fetched 50 cents.

Farmers who sold their product through contract sales to a German-owned company were comfortable with the high price offered for their golden leaf.

Zimbabwe is the 3rd country in Africa after Cameroon and Kenya to venture in the high value crop.

Cigar wrapper tobacco is currently produced by farmers in Burma Valley and is being sold through contract sales.

It is a good alternative to Virginia tobacco as it is less labour intensive and does not require firewood for curing.
